Ara Alice Sullivan, 86, of Murphysboro, Illinois, passed away at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.
Ara Alice was born on October 11, 1925, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to Otto DeRossett and Ara B. (Hagler) DeRossett Schreiber. Alice was a graduate of the class of 1943 from the Murphysboro Township High School. She was a Protestant by faith and a homemaker. She enjoyed family dinners and the togetherness that surrounds a good family. Her interests included cooking and home canning. But her greatest love were her grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren.
She was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 7190 Ladies Auxiliary, member and past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, member of the A.A.R.P., Fleet Reserves Auxiliary, and the Murphysboro Senior Citizens.
Alice married Kenneth R. Sullivan on November 8, 1942, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on August 28, 2007.
Other survivors include two children Frances (Donahue) Carver and her husband Jeffrey Carver of Murphysboro and Kenneth R. Sullivan, Jr. and his wife Debra (Alstat) Sullivan of Vergennes;
five grandchildren Cindy Doshen and her husband Joe Doshen of Murphysboro, Kassandra Sullivan of Vergennes, Richard Donahue of San Antonio, TX, Michael Donahue of Murphysboro and Paul S. Sullivan and his wife Jessica Sullivan of Vergennes;
five great granddaughters and two great great grandsons.
She was preceded in death by one daughter Mary Alice and her parents
