CHESTER - Berniece H. Lipe, 92, died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, in Memorial Hospital in Chester.

Berniece was born to George Arthur and Hettie (Biggs) Fore on May 3, 1914, in Carbondale.

She married Lawrence V. Lipe on April 4, 1936, in Cairo, and he preceded in death on Jan. 2, 2002.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chester and United Methodist Women Club. She was a librarian at the church and Sunday school teacher. She volunteered at the Chester Library. She was a member of Friends of the Library, Chester Women Club and RSVP.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Verdon and Jeannie Lipe of Summerfield, Fla., and Larry and Diana Lipe of Herrin; one daughter, Janet and Jerry Titus of Lake Oswego, Ore.; one sister, Georgia DeFrank of Carbondale; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrecne; one sister; and two brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, in Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, with the Rev. Beth Tickner officiating. Burial will be in Lipe Cemetery in Carbondale. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
