Phoebe (Fariba) and Albert had 9 children. Two died very young - one in a house fire and the other of pneumonia. I was close to the youngest 3 ... 3rd youngest was my Grandpa James Raines. Then my Aunt Sissy (Evelyn) and youngest was Uncle Peck (Wilburn). He never married ... and was quite the character. Grandpa and Aunt Sissy had bright red hair ... and personalities to match! Grandpa outlived all of his siblings and lived the longest of them all ... he was an amazing storyteller.
Yes, the Raines clan uses both spellings. In our case, it was because my Grandpa's first-grade teacher insisted that "Rains" was incorrect and it needed an "e" ... so he changed to "Raines" and some of his siblings did, too.
