Gerald 'Jelly' Grammer, 90, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, in Pettett Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Voorhees officiating.

Burial will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Gerald was born Oct. 16, 1913, in Pomona, to John Wesley and Ida Ellen (Lipe) Grammer.

He married Wilma Blake in April 1940 in Jackson, Miss. She preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 1995.

Mr. Grammer was a farmer and worked in janitorial services at the Jackson County Nursing Home in Murphysboro.

He was a member of Dutch Ridge Baptist Church in Pomona and a member of the Jackson County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Shirley Phillips of Murphysboro and Geraldine 'Jeri' and Kenny Scranton of Creal Springs; seven grandchildren and six grandchildren-in-law, Greg and Angie Peterman and Gary and Tammy Peterman, all of Murphysboro, Sherri and Chris Harlambopoulos of Carroll Stream, Todd and Kim Stewart of Murphysboro, Travis and Johnna Stewart and Timothy Stewart, all of Marion, and Kendra and Sean Priddy of Las Vegas; two step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; close family friend Candace Melvin and family; and one sister, Louise Ellis of Wood River.

He was preceded in death by five brothers; five sisters; one son-in-law, Bud Phillips; two grandsons, Terry and Tracy Stewart; one great-grandson; and one step-grandson.
