DONGOLA - Maxine "Mickey" Etherton, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at her home.
Maxine was born Aug. 2, 1922, to Robert and Lillie (Maloney) Givens. She married Earl Etherton on Sept. 6, 1942, in Cape Girardeau.
Maxine was a homemaker and also assisted her husband in the operation of their business for many years at Etherton Trucking. Maxine was a member of First Lutheran Church in Dongola.
She will be long remembered for the numerous poems she wrote and shared with family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Bob (Georgette) Etherton of Germantown, Tenn., and Jim Etherton of Dongola; one brother, Jay Givens of South Bend, Wash.; one sister, Charlene Fykerud of Raymond, Wash.; two grandchildren, Eric (Kristine) Etherton and Julie (Mark) Furr; two great-grandchildren, Ethan Furr and Brandon Furr; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends; and a special thank you to Maxine's caregivers, Tomma Hogue, Jenna McDaniel, Janie Miller and Judy Strachan.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, and two brothers, James F. and Robert E. Givens.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, in Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with the Rev. Timothy Heinecke officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to TIP Hospice, and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
