MURPHYSBORO - Jack M. Etherton, 75, died at 8:48 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, in St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010, in Pettett Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Nordstrom officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Christ Community Church or the Elk's Crippled Children's Fund.

Jack was born Sept. 29, 1934, in Carbondale to Carvel F. Etherton and Burnett (Minter) Etherton. He was a farmer for most of his life.

Mr. Etherton was a member of Christ Community Church in Murphysboro. He was also a member of Elk's Lodge BPOE 572.

Jack was an avid sportsman, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include three children, Clint Etherton and his wife, Robin Etherton, Jackie Gaffney and her husband, Jeff Gaffney, and Lorraine Bigliazzi, all of Carbondale; eight grandchildren, Tara Proctor and her husband, Josh Proctor, Cori Pyatt and her husband, Bryan Pyatt, Sommer Koons, Mallory Leady, Kelsey Leady, Ben Reiman and his wife, Kristin Reiman, Carly Gaffney and Ridge Gaffney; four great-grandchildren, Autumn Szabo, Aniya Proctor, Paxton Pyatt and William Martin; one sister-in-law, Patty Etherton of Alto Pass; one nephew, Chuck Etherton of California; and one lifelong friend, Ann Moniger of Murphysboro.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Etherton; one niece, Donna Crews; and his parents.
