Jack Etherton, 91, of the West Fork of Pine Creek, Idaho, passed away May 23, 2012, at the family home in Pine Creek. He was born July 2, 1920, in Carbondale, Ill. Jack was the son of Lewis and Hannah (Sutton) Etherton.

Jack lived in the Silver Valley all of his life. He attended schools in Wardner, Masonia, Kingston and Kellogg, graduating from Kellogg High School.

Jack served in the U.S. army during World War II; he was wounded in the war and for his bravery received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.

Jack married Jean Myrea Line on July 3, 1943, in Rolla, Mo. Jean passed away in 1992.

Jack worked for the Bunker Hill Mining Company at the Lab, the Smelter and the Zinc Plant where he was a foreman at the Melting Department for many years. He retired after 41 years when the company closed in 1981.

Jack was a member of the Senior Dance Group, the Disabled American Veterans, the Bunker Hill Zinc Plant Twenty Year club and the TURTLE club. Jack also volunteered on the Board of Directors for the Staff House Mining Museum.

Jack loved and enjoyed his family, mining adventures, dancing and camping on Priest Lake. In his younger years, he enjoyed water skiing and bowling. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, hospitality and sense of humor. He always looked for the best in people and situations. He could fix anything, often using unique and creative ideas and the materials he had on hand to solve the problem.

Jack is survived by his six children: Jack (Rod) Fields of Pine Creek, Judy Etherton of Pine Creek, Jim (Marcia) Etherton of Bakersfield, Calif., Jon (Teri) Etherton of Spokane, Wash., Jodi (John) Haire of Hatter Creek, Idaho, and Jo Hannah Etherton and Sam Hopper of Pine Creek; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bud (Alison) Etherton of South Burlington, Vt.; one brother-in-law Robert Line of Lewiston, Idaho; Jack is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, his wife Jean and two brothers, Dan and Bill Etherton, preceded him in death.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg, Idaho. A reception and a potluck gathering of family and fiends will be held at the Pine Creek Tavern following services. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Staff House Mining Museum, P.O. Box 783, Kellogg, Idaho, 83837.
