Ernest E. Etherton, a resident of Rio Rancho passed away at home on May 22, 2001. Ernie was born on February 12, 1948 to George and Oma Etherton in Murphysburo, IL. He served his country for 20 years in the United States Army and was employed as the Safety and Security Director at Nobel Sysco in Albuquerque. Ernie loved to ride with his wife on his Harley Davidson and recently accomplished his lifetime goal of attending the Sturgis Bike Rally last August in South Dakota. He was a bird enthusiast and loved feeding and tending to all of his birds at home and the ones that frequently came to visit him. He also enjoyed working in his garden and tending to his many beautiful roses, plants and trees. Ernie was preceded in death by his mother and father, George and Oma Etherton; and his two brothers, Kenneth and George. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane of Rio Rancho; son, Christopher of Indianapolis, IL; and three daughters, Tania, Erin and Rita; sister, Frances Gillespie and husband, Robert of Illinois; his loving step-daughters, Lisa Harris and husband, Greg of Denver, CO, Jennifer Dancy and husband, Jim of Rock Hill, SC, Regina McConnel and husband, Dennis of Denver, CO, and Sheila Turck-Reed of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his nine precious grandchildren, Creyton, Courtney, Brittany, Zachary, Haylee, Dalton, Hannah, Cheree and Miranda; and a host of wonderful friends. Ernie will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Memorial Service for Ernie will be held this evening in the Chapel of Rio Rancho Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Guido as Officiant. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Ernie's name to the American Cancer Society.
