MURPHYSBORO - Lela M. Etherton, a retired teacher who formerly taught in the Murphysboro and O'Fallon school systems, died Sunday, July 7, 1985, in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital of Murphysboro of Murphysboro following a two-month illness.
Mrs. Etherton resided at 1441 North 14th St. in Murphysboro. She was 82.
A graduate of Southern Illinois Normal University, Carbondale, with a bachelor of science degree, Mrs. Etherton was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Murphysboro Senior Citizens.
The funeral will be 11 A.M. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church of Murphysboro, of which Mrs. Etherton was a member. Burial will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory, Murphysboro.
Friends may call at the Pettit Funeral Home in Murphysboro from 6 to 9 p.m. today, and at the church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the services.
Mrs. Etherton was born in Pomona on July 12, 1902, a daughter of Morgan and Belle Baseden Moutell. She married Willis Allen Etherton in Pomona on June 7, 1922. He died Nov. 15, 1952.
Mrs. Etherton was also preceded in death by her parents, one grand-daughter, two sisters and one brother.
She is survived by one daughter, Lois Casleton, Murphysboro; three sons, Rondell Willis Etherton, Murphysboro, Gerald Allen Etherton, Glendora, Calif., and Gordon Joel Etherton, Yucca Valley, Calif., and 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grand-children.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the American Heart Association.
