I am the fifth generation of Thomas Jefferson Etherton (brothers

Murphysboro Illinois and the Three Grandfathers are buried in a family
cemetery east of route l27 off the remants of a town still marked
Etherton. My father and grandfather are buried in Oakland Cementary
Carbondale Illinois. All three of us served Presdiency in The Carbondale
National Bank from l889 to my retirement in l980. My generations begins with Thomas
Jefferson Etherton, Tom Etherton Jr., James Marcus Etherton, James Everett
Etherton and myself ( William C. Etherton) I have two sons James William
Etherton and Justin Edward Etherton.

I have always been fascinated
with the Etherton genealogy which becomes a can of worms from England to
Virginia and the early west. I am the fifth generation of Thomas Jefferson
Etherton who with brothers Micajah and Samuel came to Illinois from Tenn in
early l850. Tom Sr and his family settled on a ridge south of Murphysboro
Illinois. Thomas Jefferson Sr, Thomas Jr, William Carroll Etherton (my
Great Grandfather), James Marcus Etherton ( my Grandfather. Thom Sr, Jr and
William Carroll are buried in a family cemetary on the ridge east of RT 127
south of Murphysboro Illinois with a sign still indicating a small
community Etherton. My Grandfather was a farmer, school teacher and a
banker. He served the Presidency of the Carbondale National Bank,
Carbondale Illinois from l905-l938 followed by my father l938-l968 and
myself to l980. My father James Everett Etherton Married Jullia Rachel
Mitchell in l9l9 and two chidren William Carroll Etherton 10/21/1919 and
