Doris J. Barone, 87, of Murphysboro, passed away at 6:36 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Carbondale Rehab and Nursing Center.

Doris was born on June 23, 1928, in Carbondale, Illinois, to Frank O. Williams and Lena (Etherton) Williams.

Mrs. Barone had owned and operated Doris' Truck Stop in Murphysboro.

Doris was a member of the Cherokee Nation and her Native American name is Starmaker Cherokee/Spirit Dancer.

She married Thomas Barone, Jr. on July 11, 1950, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death on May 1, 2012.

She is survived by one daughter and son in law Sandy and Michael B. McCoy of Murphysboro; one grandson Michael T. McCoy of Murphysboro; one niece Jan See of Carbondale, great niece Ginny Schlindwen and her husband Jim Schlindwen of Carterville; three great great nephews Matthew Robbins, Zachery Schlindwen, and Nicholas Schlindwen, and one great great great nephew Knox Robbins; one nephew Bruce Arnold of St. Louis, MO and one niece Royanne Hilson.

She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Pettett Funeral Home with burial at St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
