CARTERVILLE — Joe Leonard Glover, 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 20, 2016, in Herrin Hospital following an extended illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, in Riggin-Pillatsch and Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Bro. Jim Stalker and Pastor Jim Endsley officiating. Burial will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville with military rites performed by the Illinois Army National Guard Ritual Team. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Crainville Baptist Church, 806 Marion St., Carterville, IL 62918 or to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 204 Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959.

Leonard was born Aug. 6, 1935, in Carbondale, to Hiram and Mary Glover.

He married Winona “Bootie” Rains on April 7, 1956, in Carterville.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Winona “Bootie” Glover of Carterville; daughter, Marcie (Kevin) Carrier; grandson, Devin (fiancé, Mindy) Carrier; brother, Jim Glover; sisters, Mary Bain, Angie Rains, Lois Rains and Edith (Tony) Emery; and many special nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen Ehlers, Hilda Etherton, June Swafford, Joan Robinson and Margaret Glover; and brothers, George, James, John, Charles and William Glover.

He honorably served our country in the U.S. Army during Korea.

Leonard was a member of Crainville Baptist Church.

He was a self-employed mechanic for over 25 years. Leonard was the owner of Glover’s Auto Mart in Carterville.

Leonard had a great talent for music. He was the lead singer of the Country Ramblers and later the Straight Country band. He especially enjoyed performing at the area nursing homes.

He also was a fast-pitch softball player for many years.

Leonard was a loving husband, wonderful father and exceptional grandfather. He is with his heavenly Father now and all those who have gone before him. Leonard will be extremely missed by his family and friends.
