Rondell "Ron" W. Etherton
Rondell "Ron" W. Etherton, 78, died at 10:35 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County, Murphysboro, Ill.
Ron was born on Dec. 17, 1924, in Pomona, Ill., to Florence Lela (Moutell) Etherton. He married Veronica Jean Etherton on September 13, 1953, in Murphysboro. She preceded him in death on March 11, 1979. He was a WWII Navy verteran. He was a member of St. Andrew Church, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post, #127.
Ron was a television technition and had worked at the former Sawyer, Potter's and also Bill's Television Repair Shops in Murphysboro. He is survived by four children and their spouses - Ronald and Rhonda Etherton of Murphysboro, Jean Etherton Murphysboro, Cathy Bencini of Carbondale and Margaret and Larry Cripps of Wright, Wyo,; one stepson - Donald and Sandra Koenig of Grass Valley, Calif.; eight grandchildren and their spouses - Ron and Amy Etherton, Jr., Richard Etherton, Jennifer and Jeff Craig, Christopher and Kim Fowler, Brian Bencini, Heather Fowler, Christine Cripps, and Samantha Cripps; three great grandchildren - Donnie Koenig, Matthew Koenig and Jonathan Koenig; one brother and his spouse - Gordon and Charlene Etherton of Yucca Valley, Calif.; and one sister and her spouse - Lois and Bob Castleton of Houston, Tex.
He was preceded in death by one daughter - Tina Marie Etherton; and one brother - Gerald Etherton.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2003, at St. Andrew Catholic Church with burial at Murdale Garden of Memory with military services conducted by the American Legion Post #127, V.F.W. Posts #2605 and 7190, and Jackson County D.A.V Chapter #69. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., Sunday, July 6, 2003, and until 10:45 a.m. Monday July 7, at Pettett Funeral Home. A rosary was recited at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, July 6.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association for masses.
