Gerald 'Jerry' Lipe, 78 of Pomona passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at 12:10 am in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
He was born January 22, 1939 to Harry and Hattie (Biggs) Lipe in Carbondale.
On August 29, 1959 he married Betty Howerton. They shared 58 wonderful years together.
Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the American Legion and on the board for Murdale Water Department. He loved to tinker on his land.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Betty of Pomona; two sons, Mike (Lisa) Lipe of Woodlawn, TN and Kevin (Pam) Lipe of Murphysboro; grandchildren, Kierstin Lipe of Carbondale; Cody (Haley) Brashear of Murphysboro; Casey (Ashley) Brashear of Jacksonville, NC; Jessica Lipe of Conway, AR and Joshua Lipe of Jacksonville, AR; great-grandchildren, Mason, Louella, Illiana and 2 on the way; a sister, Mary Dillon of Carbondale; three brothers, Melvin Lipe of Carbondale; Donald Lipe of Woodriver and Bill Lipe of Effie, LA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and any friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Funeral Services for Gerald 'Jerry' Lipe will be Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 7:00 pm in Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Cherry officiating. Military honors will be accorded.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm from 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Cremation will be accorded and private inurnment will be at a later date in Murdale Gardens of Memory.
Memorials can be made to the Victory Dream Center and will be accepted at the funeral home.
