Barbara Gresham Etherton, age 79, formerly of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2009. She was born on September 30, 1929 in Fentress, Texas. Barbara, a native Texan, graduated from Georgetown High School in 1946. She attended business school. Barbara worked as a Secretary in the Adjutant General's Office at Camp Mabry a Division of the National Guard. Barbara met Bill Etherton who was in the US Air Force on a blind date in March 1954. They married on November 20, 1954. Bill and Barbara welcomed the birth of their only child and "the light of their life", daughter, Allison on Easter Day 1960.

The couple enjoyed entertaining. They were married 35 years before Bill's death in October 1990. Prior to retirement she worked for Petrolite Instruments in Houston.

Barbara enjoyed her family and friends. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband Billy Dean Etherton, mother Faye Brooks Gresham and father Oliver Pinkney Gresham, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Allison Etherton Mangum and husband Mike of Plano; grandchildren, Katie and David Mangum of Plano; brother, Charles Oliver Gresham of Georgetown; sister-in-law, Rosemary Etherton of Missouri; and beloved other family members and many lovely friends.

The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, February 27, 2009 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 28, 2009 in the chapel of Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Dr. Steven R. Rottgers officiating. Interment will follow at the Florence City Cemetery in Florence, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Brooks, Jim Gresham, Robert Kauffman, Mike Mangum, David Mangum and Bill Shields. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Oliver Gresham, Col. Charles Quist, R.D. Howard, Terry Brooks, Kevin Brooks, Walter "Rooster" Brooks, Billy Celey, Duff Howard and Mike Howard.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Barbara's honor to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15186, Austin, Texas or to a charity of choice.
