Obituary for Esther Lee Lipe (Jarrett)
Esther Lee Lipe, 96, of Murphysboro, passed away at 9:34 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2018, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Esther was born on December 4, 1921, in Jackson County, Illinois, to Charles Grafton Jarrett and Myrtle (Wagner) Jarrett.
She had worked at an ammunition plant in St. Louis during World War II. She was a homemaker and had also worked as a cook at the Washington School in Murphysboro.
Mrs. Lipe was a member of the First Christian Church in Murphysboro, and she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She liked to crochet and quilt.
Esther married Paul Lipe on January 5, 1946, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2003.
She is survived by four sons David (Connie Dougherty) Lipe of Bixby, OK, Larry (Pam) Lipe of Murphysboro, Danny Lipe of Browns Valley, CA, and Kenneth (Barbara) Lipe of Murphysboro;
eight grandchildren Heather Lipe, Chris Lipe, Jon Lipe, Mark Lipe, Jennifer Clinton, Kevin Lipe, Carrie Smith, and Matthew Lipe;
ten great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son Phillip Lipe, one brother, five sisters, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rick Sutton officiating and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday until the hour of service. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or to the Alzheimer's Association.
