Fount L. Rains, 80, of Murphysboro, Illinois, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013, at his residence in Murphysboro.
Fount was born on March 2, 1933, in Pomona, Illinois, to Earl Rains, and Elsie (Ellis) Rains.
He had worked as a timber worker, a farmer, and he had worked for twenty three years at Kopper's Tie Plant in Carbondale.
Mr. Rains enjoyed fishing and hunting and he especially liked to ride horses.
Fount married Ida Mae Ozburn on July 3, 1953, in Murphysboro, and she preceded him in death on November 15, 1991.
Survivors include five children and spouses Brenda and Bob Johnson and Gary and Tillie Rains, all of Murphysboro, Sharon and Bob Waldrop of Carbondale, Jerry and Carolyn Rains of Pomona, and Anna Marie and Jerry Stubblefield of Grand Chain;
four grandchildren and four step grandchildren; and several great grandchildren;
one brother Phillip Rains of Murphysboro; and two sisters Imogene Bunyard of Vandalia and Delores Wettig of Pomona.
He was preceded in death by one son Robert Rains, one brother Earl Rains, Jr. and three sisters Irene Rogers, Patty Fisher, and Mary Mayers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2013, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Allen officiating and burial at Jerusalem Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
