DELTA, CO - William "Bill" Etherton, of Delta, died on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 87.
Bill was born on Dec. 16, 1917, the son of J. Eddie and Maud (Robinson) Etherton in Carbondale, Ill. In 1926, the Etherton family moved to Mosca, Colo. In 1932, the Etherton family moved to Montrose to run the Etherton family dairy. Bill graduated from Montrose County High School in 1936.
On June 24, 1944, Bill was joined in marriage with Mildred Reisher in Montrose. Together, Bill and Mildred raised three daughters.
Bill helped operate the Etherton family dairy for many years. In 1956, Bill and his family moved to Delta, where he operated an independent milk trucking route. From 1968 to 1979, Bill owned an appliance store in Delta.
Bill was an active member of the Delta Christian Church for nearly 50 years.
Bill enjoyed being active in sports, as a participant and as a spectator, including softball, basketball, swimming and golf.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mildred Etherton, of Delta, Colo.; three daughters: Jackie Bender, of Alta, Iowa; Joyce Raby, of Dove Creek, Colo.; Catherine Etherton, of Lakewood, Colo.; two siblings: Roscoe Etherton, of Boulder, Colo.; Grace Born, of Grand Junction, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Flossie Nikkel; his brother, Raymond Etherton; his nephew, Robert Etherton; and his great-grandson, Aeron Richard Bender.
A memorial service in loving remembrance of Bill's life will be officiated at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, in the Delta High School Cafeterium. All are welcome.
