Susan Hagler Etherton was born in Jackson County, Illinois April 27 1840, and departed this life July 10 in Cambria at the home of her son O. M. Etherton. She was 88 years, 2 months, and 13 days of age. Grandma Etherton was converted in her youth and has lived a devout Christian life. Although an invalid for a number of years, she bore her suffering patiently and cheerfully trusting in her Saviour. She was married to William Etherton and to this union was born twelve children, seven having preceded her in death. She was a kind and loving and devoted mother and a true friend. She leaves to mourn her departure five children, Frances Holder of Murphysboro, Dan Etherton of Alto Pass, Cora Brothers of Idaho, O. M. Etherton of Cambria, Mrs. Rachel Fox of Murphysboro; one sister Mrs. Ruth Thompson of Pomona, Ill. and 73 (75?) grandchildren, besides a host of friends who will miss her. Funeral services were held Tuesday and she was buried in Dutch Ridge Cemetery 12 miles southwest of Carbondale. --The Carterville Herald, July 13 1928
