Hattie Mae Chancey was born December 16, 1895 in Ava to James and Cecila Smith.
She married Walter A. Chancey on February 14, 1914 in Murphysboro. He died September 13, 1968. Two children survive -- Ray of Murphysboro and Mrs. Everon Lipe of Caseyville. One daughter, Irene McCoskey, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Chancey was a retired inspector for the former Brown Shoe Co. in Murphysboro. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She died at the age of 80 in the Jackson County Nursing Home in Murphysboro after a long illness.
