Valerie "Sue" Sielaff, 70, of Grand Island, formerly of Kearney, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Lakeview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, with the Rev. Jack Gillam officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Axtell. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sielaff was born on Sept. 25, 1941, in Grand Island to Wesley and Clara (Pokorney) Etherton.
Survivors of the immediate family include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Deb and Brad Schrack and Karin Sheen, all of Kearney, Terri and Jim Shanahan of Axtell and Wendy and Steve Borden of Hastings.
Other survivors include grandchildren, Philip Schrack of Rochester, Minn., Stephanie Potter, Zachary Sheen and Spencer Kehl of Kearney, Malory Shanahan of Hays, Kan., and Sara Shanahan of Axtell; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Carole Etherton of Doniphan and Rick and Nancy Etherton of Palmer; six nieces and nephews.
Sue attended public schools in Grand Island.
She was united in marriage to Delmar Sielaff on July 6, 1957, in St. Paul. She moved to Kearney in 1988 and has resided at Lakeview in Grand Island for the last few years.
Sue enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her friends, co-workers, almost any sport and she was a huge Husker fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Rory; and a grandson, Michael.
