Frank Etherton, 91, a native of Franklin county, died Monday afternoon in a local nursing home. He had been in ill health for several years and had been a resident of the nursing home during this time. Funeral rites will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. David McMahill will officiate. Interment will be in Grand Island Cemetery.
Mr. Etherton was born Oct. 4, 1879 in Franklin county to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Etherton. He received his schooling and grew to manhood in the vicinity of Red Cloud. He was employed by the Burlington Railroad at the time of his marriage to Mae Taylor Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Etherton farmed near Red Cloud. Later he entered the trucking business. He was employed in Grand Island at the time of the death of Mrs. Etherton in 1926. Mr. Etherton returned to the Red Cloud and Guide Rock areas and worked there until his health failed. He returned here and was employed here until his retirement.
He is survived by two step-sons, Lyle and Cecil Smith; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jim Etherton of this city; and other relatives. Besides his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Ed, Roy, Walter, Louis and James Etherton; and four sisters, Mrs. Hattie Huffman, Mrs. Bessie Clement, Fern and Mae Etherton.
