MURPHYSBORO -- William L. "Bill" Bost, 81, died at 10:18 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, in Murphysboro.

Bill was born Nov. 27, 1930, in St. Louis, a son to the late Wiley J. and Hallie B. (Nausley) Bost. He was united in marriage to Jacquie Joyce on June 20, 1953 in Murphysboro; Jacquie survives of Murphysboro.

Bill was a member of First Lutheran Church in Murphysboro. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Elks Lodge 572, Paul Stout Post 127 American Legion and the A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge 498, all of Murphysboro. Bill's family moved back to Murphysboro in 1935, he attended and graduated from Murphysboro schools in 1948. He then attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1948 through 1950.

In 1950, he began attending the University of Illinois and graduated in 1952 from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. From 1952 to 1954, he was employed as an engineer for Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Co. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 through 1956. He was employed as an Engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation from 1956 to 1957. From 1957 to 1963, he was employed as a Superintendant for Triangle Construction Co.

From 1963 to 1965, he was Operations Manager for Coles Asphalt Co. From 1965 to 1970, he was Manager of Gilmore Asphalt Co. In 1970, he began his career with E.T. Simonds Construction Co. He was Vice President and Operations Manager for E.T. Simonds Construction Co. until his retirement in 2004. He continued on a part time basis on special projects for E.T. Simonds Construction Co. through 2005. Bill was a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of General Contractors of Illinois, the Egyptian Contractors Association and the General John A. Logan Museum in Murphysboro.

Bill also had a passion for Super Modified Racing. His latest hobby was wine making, which gained him many new friends and good times.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, in Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Milton Bost officiating. Burial will be at Murdale Gardens of Memory near Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the funeral home.

Memorials are encouraged and may be made to First Lutheran Church or to B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 572, both in Murphysboro; memorials will be accepted at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife; Jacquie Bost of Murphysboro; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Dave Diamant of Spring City Pa.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen D. and Phyllis Bost of Kingwood, Texas and Kevin W. and Robin Bost of Des Plaines; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Jim Roberts of Murphysboro; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Peggy Bost of Murphysboro and Bob and Rose Bost of Vergennes; four grandchildren, Lauren E. Bost, Lindsey E. Bost, Travis K. Bost, and Brian Bost; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill is also survived by his special friends and caregiver, Terry Dunning; and a new friend and caregiver, Bill Reigger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Raymond "J.R." Bost.
