Raymond Crawshaw was the founder of one of the first funeral homes in southern Illinois, the Crawshaw Mortuary. He purchased the funeral home in 1930 and retired in 1969. He served as president of the Egyptian Funeral Directors Association, as well as president of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association in 1955. He was a former member of the Board of Examiners, Illinois Funeral Directors and Embalmers, and was co-founder of the Pleasant Grove Memorial Cemetery.
He was also active in community and civic organizations; a 50 year member of the Murphysboro Rotary he served as president from 1938 to 1940, and as president of the Murphysboro Park Board from 1951 to 1964. He was a Past Master and 50 year member of the AF & AM 498; a member of the Murphysboro chapter of the R.A.M.; the Beausant Commandery 86, the Scottish Rites Bodies of Phoenix Arizona, and the El Zaribah Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. in Phoenix.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Murphysboro, serving as treasurer; a member of the Jackson County Historical Society' and the St Joseph's Memorial Hospital Lay Advisory Board.
During WWII he served as the Jackson County War Bond chairman.
Son of Lewis and Leota Atkins Crawshaw.
