MURPHYSBORO -- Verna Hagler, 93, of Murphysboro, died at 9:17 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004, in St. Joseph Hospital in Murphysboro.
She was born April 9, 1911, in Carbondale the daughter of Matthew and Ora (Short) Brooks. On Oct. 22, 1928 she was married to James O. Hagler. He died in 1976.
Verna was a member of the First Baptist Church of Murphysboro and a life member and the oldest member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Eagles Lodge of Carbondale.
Survivors include a daughter, Alma Domelevich of Collingswood, N.J.; two sons, James Hagler and Herbert Hagler of Murphysboro; best friend, Charlotte Terry of Murphysboro; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandsons and one sister, Ilene Montgomery of Kissimmee, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters and one brother.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel in Murphysboro. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
