MURPHYSBORO — Ray Lamont Hale, 71, of Murphysboro, passed away at 1:06 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Ray was born Sept. 21, 1948, in Murphysboro, to Billy L. Hale and Pauline (Moutell) Hale.

Ray owned the dealership of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in Murphysboro for approximately 15 years.

Mr. Hale enjoyed woodworking and video editing. He also enjoyed writing and music.

Ray married Carol Loos on Jan. 10, 1976, in Murphysboro, and she survives.

Other survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Evan and Kathryn Hale of Murphysboro; two brothers, Marvin (Karen) Hale of Murphysboro and Earl L. (Carl Hayes) Hale of Newport, Rhode Island; and nieces and nephews Kathy Haines and family, Christian Hale, Ryan Hale and Abbey Jo Hale-Kokic and family, and Michael Anthony Brown; and one brother in law, Victor Loos of De Soto.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Rene Brown; and his parents.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at Pettett Funeral Home and burial at Tower Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Kidney Foundation.
