MAKANDA - Harry Lipe, 87, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, in Galesburg.
He was born Sept. 7, 1925, in Makanda, the son of Harry W. and Hattie I. (Biggs) Lipe.
He married Betty Morris on May 26, 1951, in Beaucoup.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty; a son, Curt (Vicki) Lipe of Galesburg; a daughter, Susan Ebersohl of Springfield; five grandchildren; four brothers, Don, Melvin, Jerry and Bill; and a sister, Mary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Harry was a self-employed carpenter most of his life, until retiring in 1997. He lived for many years in Carbondale, moving to Galesburg two years ago.
Harry was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Masons, Lions Club, and Rotary Club, where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an avid fisherman. He served as a little league baseball coach and umpire.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre as a machinists mate third class.
Cremation will be accorded. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Faith Baptist Church in Galesburg. There will be no visitation. Entombment with military rites will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Galesburg.
