Alan was born on March 28, 1948, in Carbondale, Illinois to Vernon and Mary Hagler. Alan was raised alongside his brother Gary Hagler in Cincinnati, Ohio. Alan attended Green Hills high school, and upon graduation in 1966 enlisted in the US Army. Alan served his country with honor during the Vietnam War.
Alan was an accomplished scholar, achieving a Bachelor of Science Cum Laude at Indiana Wesleyan University, as well as Master of Science in Quality Assurance from Temple University and Master of Science in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Alan’s passion was study; he loved learning and improving his level of education. Additionally, Alan was a sports enthusiast; he was an accomplished softball player and coach of his son’s baseball and soccer teams.
Alan was also an avid music lover and a collector of eclectic memorabilia. He was known for his quick wit, his affable disposition and his kind and compassionate spirit. He was an animal lover, best remembered with his dogs Maggie and McCullah by his side.
