Albert "Dick" Nance, 85, of 1003 N. Marion St., Carbondale, died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday in Holden Hospital. He had been ill several months.
Mr. Nance was a retired carpenter and farmer. He raised sugar cane and made sorghum molasses. He was a member of the Dutch Ridge Baptist Church.
Mr Nance was born in Makanda Township Jan. 13. 1880, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt M. Nance. He was married to Ida Ann Stearns, who preceded him in death. He later married Myrtle Smith.
He leaves his wife, Myrtle; three sons, Denver, Albert and Clifford, all of Carbondale; four daughters, Mrs. Linnie Brewer of Makanda, Mrs. Elsie Hart of Christopher, Mrs. Dorothy Halecek of St. Louis, MO., and Mrs. Beulah Etherton of Carbondale. He also leaves two step-daughters, Mrs. Ruby Peters of St. Louis, MO., and Mrs. Helen Kiccock of Roseville, Calif.; a brother, Rev. S. H. Nance of Carbondale; and a sister, Mrs. Claude Tripp of Murphysboro; 35 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Five children preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Dutch Ridge Baptist Church, southeast of Murphysboro. Rev. Louis Blaise, pastor of the Murdale Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Dutch Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the Van Natta Funeral Home after 4 p.m. today.
