Chester L. Grammer, age 89, of Murphysboro, passed away at 4:06 p.m. Tuesday, June, 13, 2006, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Voorhees officiating and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Friends may call from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Chester was born on August 2, 1916, in Alto Pass, Illinois, to Charles Grammer and Hattie (Fleming) Grammer. He was a very hard working farmer and carpenter.
Chester had married Betty Toler and she preceded him in death on January 24, 2002. He later married Shirley (Bardmess) on February 13, 1965, in East St. Louis, and she survives.
Other survivors include three children Jerry W. Grammer and his wife Patty Grammer of Murphysboro, Steve Grammer and his wife Valerie of Union, MO, and Duane Grammer and his fiancee Cassandra Kirkpatrick of Murphysboro; ten grandchildren Eddie Grammer, Kimberly Graziano, Jerry Wayne Grammer, II, Christy Lynn King, Lisa Peterson, Dane Grammer, Jimmy Grammer, Lauren Grammer, Lindsay Grammer and Gracelynn Grammer; thirteen great grandchildren; four sisters Inez Blessing and Gussie Brunty, both of Murphysboro, Bernice Allison of Springfield, IL, and Ova Etherton of Puryear, TN.
He was preceded in death by one son Roger Lee Grammer, one granddaughter Susan Lachelle Grammer, one sister Lucille Adams, three brothers Clifton, Wilbur, and Nelson Grammer and his parents.
