Description: Mamie E. Johnson, 83, died at 8:20 am. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at her residence. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pettett Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Jerusalem Cemetery in Pomona Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and until the hour of services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Tip Hospice Program, Jerusalem Cemetery or Mount Carbon Christian Church of Murphysboro.
Mrs. Johnson was a top stitcher at Brown Shoe Co. for 43 years. She was a member of Mount Carbon Christian Church.
She was born Dec. 25, 1913, in Pomona to Ardell Emerson and Hattie Brewer Ellis. Her mother survives of Murphysboro.
She married Lloyd Johnson on Sept. 24, 1938, in Perryville, Mo. He died Sept. 12, 1977.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Mary Alice Johnson of Desloge, Mo., and Murl and Sue Lynn Johnson of Murphysboro; one stepson and his wife, Lloyd L. Johnson Jr. andHelen Johnson of Granite City; five grandchildren, Kim James and husband Kent, Stephanie Johnson,Andrea Johnson, Mike Johnson and Steve Johnson; several Step grand-children including Julia Petus and husband Jeremy, Corey Hulsey and Cody Hulsey; three great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman Ellis of Murphysboro; two sisters, Aileen Brooks of Collinsville and Clara Rose Mifflin of Carbondale; and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Beulah, two stepgrandchildren, two brothers, one sister and her father.
